Forming Our Conscience

Well, yesterday my mind got a new topic to think of during the young adults discussion that we had….. forming our conscience…

We were having a discussion on God’s will (my favourite topic) and while we were discussing that we know that God speaks to us in our hearts, what we call our conscience, but how do we know its God speaking or just our past experiences and hurt. For us to hear God we should have a relationship with him. We should talk to him. Pray to him. Read the word. Diana said, somebody can’t do an abortion and say that my conscience told me to do that. Yes agreed ur conscience may not be formed by faith, but by past experiences, hurt etc. here the concept of forming your conscience comes into picture.

Conscience is a natural facility of our reason that does three things:
1.      Reminds us always to do good and avoid evil.
2.      Makes a judgment about the good and evil of particular choices in a specific situation.
3.      Bears witness after the fact to the good or evil that we have done. (I.e., having a guilty conscience.)

Conscience is a powerful and remarkable facility that is distinctly human.
Understand that conscience is a judgment of reason. It uses the objective principles of the moral law to judge the morality of acts in specific circumstances. Conscience is not itself the source of the moral law.
Practicing the virtues is another aspect of forming the conscience. This not only lets us do good acts, but it trains the will to desire to do good. In particular, the virtue of prudence affects the ability of conscience to judge rightly.

I always believe we have a good mind and a bad evil mind. The good mind wants to do things for the greater glory of God, for the greater good, to behave like God’s children, to do His will in our lives, to be good, just like God. The good mind wants to forgive and forget, wants to move ahead when you have fallen many times, the good mind wants to ask for forgiveness. The bad mind tries to analyse the past experiences, the past relationships and will make a decision based on seriously silly things which are not important. The bad mind will think twice before doing good.

Forming our conscience comes when we know what is right, and we do what is right. We choose to do what’s right. Whats right for us and in God's eyes and also the Will of God in our lives. So let us form our conscience in faith, strong faith. So we can always live the lives God has planned for us. Let us listen to God in our hearts, let us yearn to listen to him, he is waiting to talk to you, only if you allow him to?? Are u allowing him???

The Lord is my Shepherd

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
 3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
   for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
   through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
   for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
   they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
   my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
   forever.

Well, I read this verse yesterday and was once again reminded of God’s love for us. This verse is an act of faith, of believing that God cares for us, loves us, that God has plans for us, we are not just anybody. God has wonderfully made us. That God has carved us with the palms of his hands in our mother’s womb. Even before we were born, God knew the plans for us. That whatever happened, happens or will happen, there is one certainty that is so true. God will always be there for us, he will continue to answer our prayers, because he loves us unconditionally. He will continue to give us his love, peace and joy when we seek for it.
From this thought I remembered another favorite verse:
Matthew Chapter 7
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Here, God tells us, Ask and u shall receive, he doesn’t say ask and u might receive, or maybe ask and u may receive it if u have been a good person… NO.. he says ask and u shall receive, seek and u “shall” find… hum bolta hai na “Dhoondne pe bhagwan bhi milta hai”. It’s the same thing. If u seek peace, you will receive it, if u have faith that you will receive it, not a pinch of doubt there…..  :-)
Anyways during the last few days, I wasn’t happy with myself, and I was wondering loudly what’s the matter, but somehow God always speaks to me when I have wanted to listen to him.
He always tells me the right thing, no matter what!!!!!!
Thank you Lord!!

A historical match!! and a historical deal!!

Today’s experience was “AWESOME”. I witnessed a historical match between South Africa and India LIVE at the Wanderers Stadium, Joburg, South Africa. I just can’t explain the excitement, the environment, the happiness and joy I felt during the entire match.

To start from the beginning, on Friday it was raining heavily here and the newspapers had given a “Flood Warning.” We were discussing on Friday night whether the match will get cancelled. But today in the morning when the sun was shining, I was smiling. I don’t know how it happens or what the reason behind it is. But God has shown me innumerable ways to trust him with my life; he always listens to my prayers, always.

Well so we reached the stadium, and the match began. It was a very slow match. We didn’t score so much, considering the history Wanderers Stadium has.
The 2003 Cricket World Cup final was held at the Wanderers Stadium. This stadium also hosted one of the greatest One-day international matches. The match was played between South Africa and Australia in which a world record score of 434 was chased down by South Africa.
Considering this, the score that India made was disappointing. But as they say, hope is always there. And so India didn’t lose that single thing till the last breath.

I had got tickets for the grass embankment and it was an awesome experience. I feel one should experience the excitement that’s there sitting there and being so close to action. Watching the match LIVE was simply great, thrilling and happening. The joy and pride we felt after India won the match by 1 run cannot be explained. I am really falling short of words here…….

But I wanted to share something. I have a weird habit, whenever something impossible is about to happen, I always pray to God and make a pact with him. Tell him if this happens, maybe I would think of this other impossibility happening (real soon). And both the conditions are always the right things to happen. While I am an Indian, obviously the right thing for me would be that India wins ;-) and then I made the pact with God (and this time I prayed hatke, obviously the right thing in my life, truly the right thing :-). And I am so happy God told me what he wanted to tell, even though I want him to reveal His plan for me through such weird ways.
I really am wondering God speaks to us in so many ways, yet we fail to understand his plan sometimes. But he never ceases to do it. He always gives us opportunities, innumerable one’s to always make our lives better but we so often don’t notice them or simply ignore them. We can really be foolish at times ;-) including me :-)

I know this post has gone a different way, but I wanted to share it with ul. :-) it sounds too perfect for today. Just like how my life seems right every time I try to search God.
I wonder how God can be so patient with me :-)
I remembered a few lines from a hymn now:

He's still working on me to make me what I ought to be.
It took Him just a week to make the moon and stars,
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars.
How loving and patient He must be, He's still working on me.

1. There really ought to be a sign upon the heart,
Don't judge her yet, there's an unfinished part.
But I'll be perfect just according to His plan
Fashioned by the Master's loving hands.

2. In the mirror of His Word reflections that I see
Makes me wonder why He never gave up on me.
He loves me as I am and helps me when I pray
Remember He's the Potter, I'm the clay.

My favourite verses regarding prayer in the Bible....

Sometimes, you are helpless, u just don't know what is to be done, you are confused..
But the answer is simple, Pray!

Not sometimes, but always its best to leave it to God for he knows best for us!
These are some of my favourite verses from the Bible... do read it will inspire you...!!

Psa 28:7  The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Mat 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:6  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Mat 6:7  But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Mat 6:8  Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Mat 6:9  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Mat 6:10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Mat 6:11  Give us this day our daily bread.
Mat 6:12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Mat 6:14  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Mat 7:7  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Mat 7:8  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

1Th 5:16  Rejoice evermore.
1Th 5:17  Pray without ceasing.
1Th 5:18  In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1Th 5:19  Quench not the Spirit.
1Th 5:20  Despise not prophesyings.
1Th 5:21  Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
1Th 5:22  Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1Th 5:23  And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Ch 7:14  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Jer 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jer 29:12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
Jer 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jer 29:14 I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

Moments: oUt-oF-tHE-bLuE

“Freedom loving Uranians” is how Linda Goodman describes an Aquarian and I am no different. I have always done what I feel like in my entire life, but until recently I have experienced a new-found joy in doing things without anyone’s consent and just listening to my heart.
In India, I would never drive a car, just occasionally and that too to practice so I could drive well here. And even recently my close friends would tell you that I wouldn’t enjoy riding a 2 wheeler for long…. I don’t know why.. Maybe I would be tired while riding the 2 wheeler or just bored with the traffic..

Here in South Africa, thanks to the crime scene of the country, having a car is a necessity. So the company I work for has given me a Ford Fiesta for my own convenience. And since then I love driving, love driving on N1 at 120/130, love driving on highways at 80/90. Love going when I want to, where I want to. Listening to my favourite songs playing and just enjoying the drive. And recently I was so obsessed with this love that on New Year’s Eve I wanted to go alone on a drive to a place. It’s a place just 10 minutes away from my home. The roads here are just not straight; they are all on a hilly terrain. And on my way to office, there is a hill and if you look below, the view is beautiful. I wanted to go there that night.

But as my colleagues believe in safety first and not taking risks, I chucked the idea after much persuading. But the idea to explore a new place was still there in my mind; so on 1st January 2011, at around 5:00 p.m I left for a drive. I didn’t know where I was heading, just wanted to explore a new place, wanted to go somewhere beautiful. And I kept following my intuition and taking turns, driving and I did reach a beautiful place. It was a hilly area, with hills and valleys all around, and kachcha roads leading nowhere. And I know why I reached there; I was following signs of a “Bungee Jumping (50m)” board because I knew the place would be beautiful. And there I was. I was so thrilled by my experience and so happy that I have discovered the place on my own without any instructions from anyone.

Doing this I have realized there are so many things I love to do, have always loved to do, but did not do it, due to such silly reasons. Now I am doing it, doing what I want to, enjoying my independence and knowing that life is short, enjoy every moment God has gifted me with. Sometimes we even know what we love doing, but other things crowd our minds and we don’t pay attention to those things. We are busy in living our routine lives, which is a good thing to do, don’t get me wrong ;-) :P but sometimes just out of the blue, do things u have always loved to do. You will experience a unique happiness, unique joy that will last for days to come. And I feel these little moments makeup for a wonderful life. Later you will remember these moments and smile.
